DID YOU KNOW PHYSICAL THERAPISTS OFTEN HAVE AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION JUST LIKE DOCTORS?
In recent years physical therapists have begun to specialize. For example, there are therapists who are designated as certified hand therapists. Such therapists must undergo special training in treating hand and hand related injuries, must have significant experience in treating such injuries, and must pass a rigorous test before they are able to be certified as a hand therapist.
Once certified, the therapist must continue to devote a significant percentage of their time to treating patients with hand or hand related injuries in order to maintain their certification. Other specializations include the treatment of spinal column injuries, and the treatment of children.
If your doctor recommends therapy to you, you may want to ask if it would be wise for you to see a therapist specializing in the area of your injury.
