What Should I Do After My Motorcycle Accident Injury?
If you (or a loved one) have been injured in a motorcycle accident, it is a difficult, confusing, and stressful time. Not only are you dealing with the pain and discomfort of your injuries, but there is the stress that comes with missing work, with medical and other bills piling up, and with the loss of income.
To help you deal with this confusing time, below is a list of suggestions you should consider following a motorcycle injury:
- If you are still at the scene of the accident – consult our Accident Checklist.
- Get prompt medical attention/treatment.
If you’ve already been to the hospital following the accident, be sure to follow the instructions you received upon discharge. If not, and you are experiencing any pain whatsoever, make sure you follow up with a doctor. And, be sure to follow your doctor’s advice.
- Contact an attorney.
Don’t wait to contact an attorney to get the help you need. Time is not on your side. Waiting even a short period of time can result in the loss or destruction of important evidence and can make it harder or impossible to find key witnesses. Remember, initial consultations at my office are always free.
- Report the accident to your insurance company.
If you haven’t reported the accident to your insurance company, be sure to do so. However, we recommend that you consult with your attorney before giving any statement to your insurance company.
- Don’t talk to the other driver’s insurance company.
We strongly recommend that you don’t talk to the other driver’s insurance company. Remember, they are representing the other driver and therefore are looking out for the other driver’s legal interest, not yours. For more information on this see our article Don’t Make These Mistakes.
- Avoid common mistakes that can hurt your case.
For a list of commonly made mistakes that can hurt your chances for a just result, see our article entitled Don’t Make These Mistakes.
Motorcycle Cases Are Different
Because motorcycle cases are different than a typical automobile accident in several crucial ways, they require the skills of an experienced personal injury attorney. For example, motorcycle insurance policies rarely provide for medical benefits or wage loss coverage.
The challenges facing the victims and their families are often huge. I understand how difficult these challenges are and that’s why I will fight tirelessly to protect your rights.
