At least 53 persons were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), in addition to several other related arrests, through “Operation Nighthawk” in Luzerne County, according to the Pennsylvania State Police on Tuesday, August 20.
After receiving specialized training by the Pennsylvania State Police, state-wide municipal police and troopers carried out the initiative on August 16 and 17. Some 775 motorists were stopped, with some receiving citations and warnings. Citations included not wearing a seat belt, and driving with a suspended license, among others.
“Operation Nighthawk,” which was conducted in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania DUI Association, was organized to lessen the number of DUI accidents in Luzerne County.
